Praetorian tank crew and objective markers

Hello everyone, I hope you have all had a good weekend. I've managed to get down to some good hobbying today and have made some good progress with a great many projects currently ongoing.

Heres a look at the mess I've made in the kitchen...

One of the most interesting project at the moment is the Salamander. I have finished converting the tank crew (and crew for my Medusa), they now all have goggles on their helmets and various gaps from converting have been filled. Here they are.
Medusa gunner
 Medusa loader
 Salamander comms operator
 Salamader officer

I'm pretty happy with the goggles, the medusa crew were the last two I did so I think they look a bit better. I'll have to wait and see how they look painted.

Another project I've been working on is a couple more objective markers. A ammo cache and a fallen standard, of course with the obligatory pith helmet.

While I had all my modelling tools out I also had a crack at converting another Praetorian Officer, this time with a Power fist and cane, he will be the officer of 2nd platoon (which consists of a lot of undercoated and needing to be stripped guardsmen...).

There has also been a fait amount of painting going on this weekend, all of which has been working towards updating several tanks; Leman Russ, Leman Russ Executioner, Medusa, Highland Vets. Chimera, Command HQ Chimera.

Heres a picture of the HQ Chimera and Medusa. I have finished the weathering on the tracks of all of the tanks and basecoated the various parts which will have free hand designs and markings put on them. There is a lot to do but it will be worth it in the end...

Quite a big update there, rather a lot of plates spinning at once. I have also just ordered a mechanical horse...

Praetorian Objective Marker

Just a quick post showing the 1st finished objective marker. It is one of the casualty models from the Praetorian range except his right hand has been changed to hold a grenade. He won't be taken alive...

The others planned will include a fallen standard and an ammo cache.

Praetorian Command HQ - Almost done!

I never seem to fancy painting much when I get home from work, instead in find myself starting to paint around 9/10pm. Next thing I know my vision is going a bit blurry and I'm not quite so steady any more, I look at the clock and it is 1am, that would be why... going to be fun getting up.

After that little ramble heres a photo of the almost finished HQ!!!

At present everything which is black (or scorched brown aquilla and helmet band) is unpainted. So still a bit to do but not a lot. The other remaining hurdle is the banner, I have a design I wish to paint which I have pencil drawn onto the banner itself, I posted some drawings a while back and here's the picture again

Painting the Rough Riders banner was a pain but this one is wonderfully flat! I think for this one the gloves are well and truely off!

Hopefully tomorrow (today as it is 1am...) will be the day I can finish these guys off!

Command HQ - Getting there!

Another update on how the Command HQ are doing.

The khaki, flesh and epaulettes are done. Still lots of painting to do. I'm trying to work out what colout to paint a lot of different parts. Red is a colour which runs through the army so I'm thinking red for the sashes they all wear. The cuirasses will be a dark bronze colour like the one worn by the Lieutenant of the 1st Platoon. Eagles on the helmets will be bronze, the bit currently grey will become white. The real bits that I'm unsure about are the cuffs and bands that run around the helmets. They will need to match and my three options so far are white, red or gold. Anyone got any ideas???

Comments always welcome!

Command HQ update

Just a few photos of how the Command HQ are progressing and an objective marker I've made using one of the wounded Praetorians.

The photos show a couple of steps in the uniform painting. It is rather laborious but uses only two colours and a lot of stages. First is 2 parts bestial brown to one part bleached bone, then 50:50 ogryn flesh devlan mud wash the whole thing. Then painting bestial brown 1:1 bleached bone except the very deepest recesses. Then we have about 5 stages of highlights adding more bleached bone each time till the final highlight of just bleached bone. The photos show the second, third and final highlights. Its pretty time consuming, but hey this is the HQ after all! Next is the flesh and trying to work out what colour to paint all the gubbins.

The objective marker has also had his right hand removed and one with a grenade added, they'll never take him alive!
I've got plans for two more markers, one which will be an ammo cache, the other a fallen Praetorian banner.
