All of the below was painted in the space of two weeks!<br />
<br />
A few WIP (apologies for the somewhat jumbled order, it was a mad dash to paint them and the photos show that!) photos along the way along with the finished models. The new tanks all need to be weathered and the Land Raider needs some free hand love, but otherwise they are all done.<br />
<br />
Enjoy!<br />

<br />
Rather ambitiously I have 5 tanks to paint before the LGT Horus Heresy on 19th and 20th May 2018. As it stands I have 10 days...<br />
<br />
Not only do I have to paint those tanks, but also a load of infantry. Anyway one musn’t grumble, Praetorian stiff upper lip and all that, lets get it all done! Huzzah!<br />
<br />
Here are the tanks as they currently stand. The main colour is done bar one final wash which makes them a little less yellow and gives them a nice finish. Next step will be the tracks and anything black/metal. I may have to take a view on tank markings and save that for a later date, priority will be get enough finished and then get stuck into the infantry.<br />
<br />
Wish me luck!<br />

A 3000pts battle against an absolutely gorgeous Ultramarine army. <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was absolutely brilliant, the game was neck and neck from start to finish and it looked to be heading into a draw in turn 5 until the final throw of the dice, my Medusa (counts as medusa field gun as 30K militia have some differences) one shotted an otherwise untouched land raider! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The game gave you extra points for units in the opponents deployment zone, as the dust settled there were none for either of us, both warlords were dead, and it came down to attrition with me winning on units killed! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Here are some photos for you to enjoy. </div>

<br />
It still seems like only yesterday that I was updating this blog pretty regularly. Now, I realise that it’s been in excess of a year since I uploaded anything and even longer since I did anything Praetorian!<br />
<br />
Life, as so often happens, gets in the way of being an upstanding Colonel in the Praetorian Guard.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I’m pleased to report that as of 11:00 PST (Praetorian Standard Time) on 22 day of April in the year 2018 of out lord and saviour the Emperor, work has once again commenced on the glorious 4th Praetorian Mechanised Infantry.<br />
<br />
I will post more and in greater detail (believe it when you see it) in the coming weeks. But for now I’ll post a few photos and let you know what is to come.<br />
<br />
I’ve started work on the Highland Grenadiers and a few lascannon teams to bulk out a heavy weapon squad. Most interestingly of all though... these are so I can play 30K! Ive been persuaded to join the Horus Heresy Narrative campaign at the London Grand Torunament next month. It means that almost all my armour is useless, but it does give me some fun modelling options, one in particular being a... LAND RAIDER!!! What Praetorian planetary governor would want to travel in a Land Raider Proteus and pretend he is playing original rogue trader?<br />
<br />
To get done in the next month are another 14 vanilla guardsmen (to make three units of 20 lasgun guardsmen), the 10 Highland Grenadiers, 3 lascannon teams, a Leman Russ Demolisher and then Land Raider. Should be fun!<br />
<br />
I’ll do my best to blog as I go. Thanks for still following my blog and I hope you like what I manage to put together for you all!<br />

Been absolutely ages since my last post. Real life has spectacularly gotten in the way recently, but more than that I rediscovered a long lost love...
Blood Bowl!
Now I know this blog is all about my beloved Praetorians but please allow me this indulgence to share with you what I've been working on these past few months, my Dark Elf Blood Bowl team and the simply phenomenal Dragon Bowl League (DBL) that I have been participating in in London.
This all came about last August when I was invited to bring my Praetorian army down to the London Warhammer Gaming Guild (google it and come along to one of the meet ups if you've never heard of it! It's an absolutely fantastic group of people and very well run) for photos to feature in the post London 40K Grand Tournament newsletters. While at the club, a few members were engaging a warm up game of Blood Bowl for the upcoming Dragon Bowl 2016 season. I couldn't help but look down that rabbit hole... I was immediately hooked and desperate to take part.
First question was, what team to use. Historically when it comes to Warhammer I have always been a massive Dark Elf fan and had an army in one form or another in Warhammer, Man O War, Warmaster and of course Blood Bowl. I had the full second edition Blood Bowl team that came out (Naggaorth Nightmares) and Horton Heartripper but dont think I ever got more than a couple of games in with them way back when. Given that Druchii blood runs deep within my veins I had no choice but to resurrect a Dark Elf team to play in the DBL!<br />
<br />

Here is a photo of the Clar Karond Cleavers, champions of the Western Wanderers conference and champions of the prestigious Magenta Fist!
This photo was taken just before they travelled to the DBL Grand Final day where they had a semi final showdown against the mighty Dwarven team MC Warhammerers.<br />
<br />
If you want to see more of these guys please let me know! I have plenty more photos to share, and really enjoyed converting and painting these models.<br />
<br />
Thanks for looking! Colonel Winterbornehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05335124398357546922noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058325999220434569.post-16259013320326862252016-08-09T21:46:00.000+01:002016-08-09T21:46:25.029+01:00Praetorian Blood Axe Kommandos?Greetings everyone!<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've been hinting for sometime that I'v been working on something a little different for my army, something a little greener... well without further ado... a Blood Axe Kommando! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0qCRkkGvuiQjib-zSNce4KpOsfHDdTsUv9Qn1VjeGVsjnIhWGBdasxMd3_ehucj5kGmpkft3uUPiJ0UOkR5cCDQXLxppS1VtVaE9GGlByk3BH-YCojXel2fwOm8fB3C4BB6mnkYCrGxo/s1600/Blood+Axe+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0qCRkkGvuiQjib-zSNce4KpOsfHDdTsUv9Qn1VjeGVsjnIhWGBdasxMd3_ehucj5kGmpkft3uUPiJ0UOkR5cCDQXLxppS1VtVaE9GGlByk3BH-YCojXel2fwOm8fB3C4BB6mnkYCrGxo/s640/Blood+Axe+1.jpg" width="546" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now before you call the Inquisition on me hear me out. Back when the Praetorians came out, part of the story of Big Toof river was that the badly led Imperial Guard had ignored the intelligence of their highly paid mercenary blood axe kommandos. In doing so they walked right into a trap fully believing the settlement to be lightly garrisoned. As you all know it did not end well for the Imperial Guard and led to Glazers Creek where the remnants of the 24th where holed up maintaining supply lines. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0qi66UNSUWfFeMnSr4jtk-kHIKHdO-BAt7F7_cdzCkpQhpZuIF2sHAzq9zGMBEsxcMW_sfSGtBpjalF2UH16M8-C_kw64NteC1ijRfMw2oAVLZdVh3kNSzXxrKWxX8_7iWsz3Qbsqss/s1600/Blood+Axe+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr0qi66UNSUWfFeMnSr4jtk-kHIKHdO-BAt7F7_cdzCkpQhpZuIF2sHAzq9zGMBEsxcMW_sfSGtBpjalF2UH16M8-C_kw64NteC1ijRfMw2oAVLZdVh3kNSzXxrKWxX8_7iWsz3Qbsqss/s640/Blood+Axe+2.jpg" width="488" /></a></div>
<br />
Anyway, I've always loved the idea that the Blood Axes could be bribed to turn against their fellow greenskins. How far you trust their intelligence is another matter entirely. This inspired me to build a unit of kommandos to fight with my guard, either as proxies for something or simply as orks in bigger apocalypse style games where their sneaky skullduggery can be woven into the story.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin_hSkSnJW3GIHb5Cdz62nviarqByH5H25jUFfWy1RscvI8vBnEd-dEc0-xBtwB0bSlkQRe-V6ZwmKfkRv8NV_lVw2j4N0EuWkMLe40lA9g0AHZZ0wLYzZrMBHWI9bqC3R4Z6d8PymP1U/s1600/Blood+Axe+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEin_hSkSnJW3GIHb5Cdz62nviarqByH5H25jUFfWy1RscvI8vBnEd-dEc0-xBtwB0bSlkQRe-V6ZwmKfkRv8NV_lVw2j4N0EuWkMLe40lA9g0AHZZ0wLYzZrMBHWI9bqC3R4Z6d8PymP1U/s640/Blood+Axe+3.jpg" width="434" /></a></div>
<br />
Anyway enough guff about the fluff, let's talk models. This guy is one of Kromlech's fantastic Afrika Korp models. They have tonnes of character and with the uniforms I thought they would fit in a treat with my Praetorians.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU9JfpTBEScsjlVU8GdeNr1VS1CZ_O5wvYdVjworYftq7C5L7HprPDozkm_hkr20noERBbA5fuFPNsxmngmyH0lboOUUsoG71o-PigyoPvvM2mhyphenhyphenmabIFdMEyA9QChHK2zOrwsdJ-9IY8/s1600/Blood+Axe+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgU9JfpTBEScsjlVU8GdeNr1VS1CZ_O5wvYdVjworYftq7C5L7HprPDozkm_hkr20noERBbA5fuFPNsxmngmyH0lboOUUsoG71o-PigyoPvvM2mhyphenhyphenmabIFdMEyA9QChHK2zOrwsdJ-9IY8/s640/Blood+Axe+4.jpg" width="408" /></a></div>
<br />
This model was a lot of fun to paint and was also very straightforward. I actually painted him in parts, with the torso and legs glues together and then the arms and head separate. It was a pain when it came time to assemble him as I had to greenstuff the gaps on the arms, but it was worth it for ease of paint job.<br />

<br />
The green for the skin is the GW method they demonstrate in their instructional video with an extra light highlight from me to make it that little better. The eyes are worked up to pure yellow in the centre too to give them a little extra interest.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_f26hwksNO4E7oi3qUxt5YoYb4FcUEUMJ-GJw12yDJV9uYDMNCXdk6Kdc-KBEfTXbIhhaTkwZsUT4vsO8PGFuq11iv8qydveOCKV64K-aGGKOAgQryMmLlP8taSH-YGPQO6eZ4Ohavks/s1600/Blood+Axe+6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_f26hwksNO4E7oi3qUxt5YoYb4FcUEUMJ-GJw12yDJV9uYDMNCXdk6Kdc-KBEfTXbIhhaTkwZsUT4vsO8PGFuq11iv8qydveOCKV64K-aGGKOAgQryMmLlP8taSH-YGPQO6eZ4Ohavks/s640/Blood+Axe+6.jpg" width="614" /></a></div>
<br />
The white webbing is the same as my regular guardsmen as is the uniform colour. I've changed the shorts to grey to add an extra colour or else I though it would end up far to mono colour. The gun itself is just plain silver as I was at a loss what to do with it!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPa9DWpJDO8IXJx1-7Z6vI8_csYON1NL6TV4jJP-e52p4-k6D9sbQeEeGJaIAb0RIcqN0t3fsGo0Sc0BmV2GPujTjyPYOOvY-bRngh74rjh6XR49BQJEcBlxYqwBhz-3bkEczeQMSVUE/s1600/Blood+Axe+7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="544" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgPa9DWpJDO8IXJx1-7Z6vI8_csYON1NL6TV4jJP-e52p4-k6D9sbQeEeGJaIAb0RIcqN0t3fsGo0Sc0BmV2GPujTjyPYOOvY-bRngh74rjh6XR49BQJEcBlxYqwBhz-3bkEczeQMSVUE/s640/Blood+Axe+7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here we see the ork next to some of the Life Guards for a comparison of size and to see how the colours go together<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8Y1BsIndBnDipt99twt7O60WonJjWx1bJTAxzhFCcO1P36l6cY1rWotAzohSVfw_NY39zsgqQHLGslDyXPcP_aUku28EHDnNSjnsqVylR3k5pXcI4ISHQ1OU_K0CHaOxh4wQljtIeJBE/s1600/Blood+Axe+8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="414" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8Y1BsIndBnDipt99twt7O60WonJjWx1bJTAxzhFCcO1P36l6cY1rWotAzohSVfw_NY39zsgqQHLGslDyXPcP_aUku28EHDnNSjnsqVylR3k5pXcI4ISHQ1OU_K0CHaOxh4wQljtIeJBE/s640/Blood+Axe+8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This ork is pretty massive in comparison to the guardsman, just as it should be. I know orks are meant to be on the same size bases but I fancied they would look better on the new Space Marine bases and I think I prefer them on the bigger size.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixJNVYTqj09tcT6e_y8P-0JOf8Kg5hlmNfXHd-ToQccTgP3p5ReBQP6GxUB1aui1QXUaaWrj_Kygib_uwhno6AESjTKwDaW-YpUUatqmxrligNwPd4EdBMNvdtmn9H8EipsfUyVSfCNPY/s1600/Blood+Axe+9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="382" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixJNVYTqj09tcT6e_y8P-0JOf8Kg5hlmNfXHd-ToQccTgP3p5ReBQP6GxUB1aui1QXUaaWrj_Kygib_uwhno6AESjTKwDaW-YpUUatqmxrligNwPd4EdBMNvdtmn9H8EipsfUyVSfCNPY/s640/Blood+Axe+9.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Here we see the ork staring down the barrel of a Life Guard's flamethrower. You will see the vein on the ork arm which is painted with a slight blue hue<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU-rPvhPjoR8qFrFahgZI6p5jOkjIklLdPwmN6XQCN3kGUQD8eYEBqyl_KXCYhGzygE1twvY5dRFCTr-9ORbIp8b8BynBya4NYfG7DOqfBD5Gj_cWkkon1Frf3I5L4CW5oQ5yJukUMxrk/s1600/Blood+AXe+10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="468" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU-rPvhPjoR8qFrFahgZI6p5jOkjIklLdPwmN6XQCN3kGUQD8eYEBqyl_KXCYhGzygE1twvY5dRFCTr-9ORbIp8b8BynBya4NYfG7DOqfBD5Gj_cWkkon1Frf3I5L4CW5oQ5yJukUMxrk/s640/Blood+AXe+10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So there you have it, the first of a unit of 10 sneaky Blood Axes to add to the Praetorian IV.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I'd really love some feedback on this guy before I paint the best. In particular the following - the weapon, can I leave it just metal? I it needs another colour, what? What do you think of the skin, does it need to be darkeror different in another way? Does the model need more colour? </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Any feedback whatsoever would be greatly appreciated! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Cheers!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Greetings all! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A quick post with a few photos of some newly painted models that have been long on the workbench! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally, about 3 to 4 years after the first 5 were finished, I have finally painted the second half of the Life Guards squad! Huzzah! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
No longer will I be forced to field a unit of 5 storm troopers to no effect whatsoever. I can now field a full squad of 10 to no effect whatsoever! Double Huzzah!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Anyway, lets take a look...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Fv-3fBUNFXRu30yaXAiU9QdpM0FVr1w_yqy2y7AZg_MqjQx_0B5Y3QPCsMqHXyhYMR8bifq6Y0Vk-5re2whtA0DlSBBtZ07W2yJxO5DdZNyrtGQC_Rjgzi5A8DEJ2bqykELIu6BIqZY/s1600/IMG_9102.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-Fv-3fBUNFXRu30yaXAiU9QdpM0FVr1w_yqy2y7AZg_MqjQx_0B5Y3QPCsMqHXyhYMR8bifq6Y0Vk-5re2whtA0DlSBBtZ07W2yJxO5DdZNyrtGQC_Rjgzi5A8DEJ2bqykELIu6BIqZY/s640/IMG_9102.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Photos aren't great (apologies for that), but here we see the whole squad on my painting table (chest of drawers). I really enjoyed some aspects of painting these fellas and I'm really pleased that they match the originals with little variance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAk1-E8u7PmDpsLnSbFzXhkp_BxiZ1U_0PyCmG5Zk3t0ORmFiQBiLsuXK0dTy8y4hW_lt5qdVj2Yhv2GckbbR25yDePsbe_x20iaSP6aZPzeUDPpgOrOv0pTF-92wR7BUDXDZOQTGvFUw/s1600/IMG_9103.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAk1-E8u7PmDpsLnSbFzXhkp_BxiZ1U_0PyCmG5Zk3t0ORmFiQBiLsuXK0dTy8y4hW_lt5qdVj2Yhv2GckbbR25yDePsbe_x20iaSP6aZPzeUDPpgOrOv0pTF-92wR7BUDXDZOQTGvFUw/s640/IMG_9103.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The three in the foreground are newbies. Painting these guys assemble with the arms in place was a massive pain. I think I'm going to start doing a little more painting of disassembled models. I'm reminded of the Highland Scions who are in need of paint and the thought of trying to get in to the detail is not filling me with joy!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3vvEBns8Z1O-yyJkIM3uYzGpgElGVJxJJYGQzjpupAeeGbQoSDD_joIvq44JnWsuEVBF-FiC4VpQBZRW_ZwGvTJN0rWpknMeOIAm2Mpgln3-YORE0lpuH2IYE1fHK9pTi3BPOJkmYDBI/s1600/IMG_9104.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3vvEBns8Z1O-yyJkIM3uYzGpgElGVJxJJYGQzjpupAeeGbQoSDD_joIvq44JnWsuEVBF-FiC4VpQBZRW_ZwGvTJN0rWpknMeOIAm2Mpgln3-YORE0lpuH2IYE1fHK9pTi3BPOJkmYDBI/s640/IMG_9104.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I love the expressions on these guys. Victoria Lamb Praetorian heads are utterly brilliant. Bags of character in every model.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs0wLKKUBKpQt0ga-NfPbu6WGOUtpZvbQrcGvKBuOIryvSScq4KfFn39ko88gNpC8J2e-ysOy7m9CJWMSO9FKcizvp9DGEfE6FkmC8KpNHNu7J1N87DZ7EAZSXn3drAoBGKHh5EIPRsvg/s1600/IMG_9105.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjs0wLKKUBKpQt0ga-NfPbu6WGOUtpZvbQrcGvKBuOIryvSScq4KfFn39ko88gNpC8J2e-ysOy7m9CJWMSO9FKcizvp9DGEfE6FkmC8KpNHNu7J1N87DZ7EAZSXn3drAoBGKHh5EIPRsvg/s640/IMG_9105.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
One final picture with a close up of this kneeling fella. I'm so pleased to get these done.<br />
<br />
I'm now working on an as yet unseen and announced sneaky unit... I'm having to work out how to paint green...<br />
<br />
Finally, there is blog you should all definitely check out if you don't already do so, <a href="http://taleofpainters.blogspot.co.uk/" target="_blank">Tale of Painters</a>. I've followed it for years and have a link in my page banners. It is full of tutorials and the work of some inspirational painters and well worth a look. I also might add there is a fine Praetorian gentleman that has recently began contributing...<br />
<br />
Cheers!<br />

<br />
Firstly sorry for still not having posted the battle report from the big Praetorian Bad Moon Orks game, it will arrive eventually... I promise!<br />
<br />
But I've surely got to give you something by way of an apology so here are two photos of two new conversions for the army. The army is being expanded again and there are a whole raft of new models that will soon need painting.<br />
<br />
I've downed brushes for the time being (I'm actually waiting for some new ones as I used the old to destruction!) and am busy converting new models. Soon to be added are a Leman Russ Demolisher, another Taurox (with the VL Wheels), the Tech Priest's Trojan, some servitors, some more priests, psykers and lots more guardsmen. Of particular note will be lots more Highlanders and some very very sneaky gitz... But more on the latter another time.<br />
<br />
Anyway without further ado, two of the new WIP additions!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlX4PU5s2eKfqXazW2njoYhf-J53wNR-y9xoHQgnVRu_T4p0hsw1k6ilPhKxdmy4ymAoOnZzmylmVLsRcjsXDuZnt-zJZX-JI390YDS4HH09g10Kbz5J7CK0IqCrru6viHhrYGj5LJ7A/s1600/ch1.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMlX4PU5s2eKfqXazW2njoYhf-J53wNR-y9xoHQgnVRu_T4p0hsw1k6ilPhKxdmy4ymAoOnZzmylmVLsRcjsXDuZnt-zJZX-JI390YDS4HH09g10Kbz5J7CK0IqCrru6viHhrYGj5LJ7A/s640/ch1.png" width="496" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
First up we have the new Colonel (rank and name subject to change) of the Highland Regiment. I recently ordered a load of Victoria Lamb bits and set to work converting up some new fellas and this man, with no real plan on my part, just came to life!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The axe (not enough guardsmen with axes are there?) was a freebie. I was inspired by some space marine characters (is it one of Calgars honour guards?) and gave the pointing axe pose a go. The arm was originally a sword arm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The pistol is a plasma pistol to complete the 'points sink what a ridiculous combination of wargear for a guard commander' look.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He will have a Highland command squad to accompany him in due course. I think he might become one of my favourite models...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn2NSEA8ZibezzmLCTC8SwQStWLaXk3oNpRPIis231mfy_nMU8u1I1Mec9CCjo2dl8oYl7RHB1nco_WqYuriBK6gEY9E46m6ll2xRs2IViEV72LP-bDFtOoaKkOvzr8Xotw66BWzwyEPE/s1600/ch2.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgn2NSEA8ZibezzmLCTC8SwQStWLaXk3oNpRPIis231mfy_nMU8u1I1Mec9CCjo2dl8oYl7RHB1nco_WqYuriBK6gEY9E46m6ll2xRs2IViEV72LP-bDFtOoaKkOvzr8Xotw66BWzwyEPE/s640/ch2.png" width="428" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally we have a Praetorian drummer girl! Its all VL bits, with a hat swap and the praetorian epaulettes rather than the stock shoulder guards the model came with. So much character in this model. I think she will need to join Captain Caine's command squad and no doubt I will need to convert a few more characters up to finish it off.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sorry again for still not having the battle report! Soon, I promise!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thanks for reading!</div>
<br />Colonel Winterbornehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05335124398357546922noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058325999220434569.post-39358029638236224392016-06-08T18:09:00.005+01:002016-06-08T18:14:03.133+01:00Orks sir, fasands of 'em! - The Bad Moons of Warboss GorbludHi All.<br />
<br />
As Col. Winterborne's opponent for this rather large battle, he has given me permission to overtake his blog temporarily to showcase my army.<br />
<br />
I've been painting this Ork army for about the last 6 years, and the painted models I'm using for this game total about 5300pts with the current rules (rather handily a very similar amount to the Colonel's army). I've always loved Orks for the amazing conversion opportunities the army offers, and I've tried to make as many of my miniatures as unique as I could.<br />
<br />
The below two pictures show the whole army. It currently consists of over 15 vehicles and 140 infantry. The whole army is painted as part of a Bad Moons clan, because I just love how much they stand out on the battlefield.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1345.photobucket.com/user/WarbossGorblud/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213321_zps2mxnqffj.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Studio_20160607_213321_zps2mxnqffj.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p676/WarbossGorblud/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213321_zps2mxnqffj.jpg" height="376" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1345.photobucket.com/user/WarbossGorblud/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213714_zpscdlhs8dq.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Studio_20160607_213714_zpscdlhs8dq.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p676/WarbossGorblud/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213714_zpscdlhs8dq.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
I currently have six HQ choices in the Army (as shown in the picture below): 2 Warbosses, 2 Big Meks, a Weirdboy and a Painboy. The special rules and wargear that these boys bring to the battlefield are key to the army's success on the battlefield when used well. I've spent quite a lot of time converting and painting each of these and they're some of my favourite miniatures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1345.photobucket.com/user/WarbossGorblud/media/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213538_zpshn5xnyjc.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Studio_20160607_213538_zpshn5xnyjc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p676/WarbossGorblud/Mobile%20Uploads/Studio_20160607_213538_zpshn5xnyjc.jpg" height="377" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Another two key units that will help determine the outcome of the battle are my superheavies - my Skulhamma Battlefortress (Baneblade conversion) and the mighty Stompa. Again, I really love the conversion opportunities these models offer but I must sadly admit I have yet to finish painting these epic miniatures. Painting my yellow paint scheme takes a rather long time, and because I don't have that many opportunities to use them on the battlefield they haven't quite made it to the top of my painting list yet.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s1345.photobucket.com/user/WarbossGorblud/media/Mobile%20Uploads/DSCF1067_zpsflcchcsr.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo DSCF1067_zpsflcchcsr.jpg" border="0" src="http://i1345.photobucket.com/albums/p676/WarbossGorblud/Mobile%20Uploads/DSCF1067_zpsflcchcsr.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
I haven't got the space to show close ups of all my units but here are a couple of my favourites. Firstly, my Lootas - these are some of my favourite plastic miniatures GW have made. The models look great as individuals but even better in units. And in my favourite Bad Moon yellow colour scheme I think they look just superb. And secondly, my Kommandos (the one exception to my Bad Moon colour scheme). With this unit I wanted to make the sneakiest and most devious Orks I could. They're all converted from plastic kits to create some really cool and unique models and I felt models as sneaky as these (notice the huge silencers they're all sporting) needed a suitably sneaky paint scheme.<br />

<br />
I'll now finish this post with the newest addition to my army (and also my favourite model) - my Dakkajet. I'm fairly certain this is the first bi-plane Dakkajet converted, and I'm so happy with how it looks. I have to admit that during the epic battle (that you're shortly going to see a battle report of) it was also not quite finished, so I've added a picture of it below from a week later (at the London W40k GT) with it fully painted.<br />

<i>"Gorblud knew it was a trap. </i><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>It had to be. Winterborne had never made a tactical
mistake like this before. After years of chasing each other across many
planets, there finally seemed to be an opportunity where Gorblud could
face-down the infuriating Colonel with no chance for him to escape.</i><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>Winterborne was planning something. He must know the sort
of force Gorblud could bring to this battlefield, and yet he had still
seemingly stranded himself there with no means of escape. Yes, he had a lot of
armour at his disposal - and a lot of Orks would die in the battle - but the
numbers were all in Gorblud's favour. That meant that Winterborne had some sort
of hidden trick planned, to tilt the odds.<br />
And Gorblud had no idea what it was.</i><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>There were two ways to deal with a trap: try and avoid it
and get to your quarry via a route he doesn't expect - an unlikely prospect
without knowledge of what the trap was - or to spring the trap while
endeavouring not to get caught in it. The second option was Gorblud's
favourite. It usually meant the trapper thought everything was going to plan
until, the last minute. If done well it could mean a crushing defeat to the
opposition.</i><o:p></o:p></div>

and years getting everything in place.<br />
But he was still worried. "The devil is in the detail" his father
used to tell him over countless games of regicide when he was a boy. It was
true, and Winterborne had spent so much of his time recently trying to ensure
every detail was just right. Not 'perfect' - nothing was ever perfect. And if
it looked perfect then it was probably too good to be true. No, the details
needed to be just good enough to do the job, just good enough to give the
outward impression he wanted, but nothing more.</i><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>Would Gorblud suspect it was a trap? Possibly. He was an
extremely intelligent specimen of his species, and cunning to boot. But if
he did suspect a trap, would it stop him falling in it? Winterborne suspected
not. In fact his was betting his life, and that of his regiment's, on it.</i><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i><br /></i></div>
<div class="MsoNormal">
<i>The plan couldn't fail to draw Gorblud out, but would it
get rid of this green menace forever?<br />
"No plan survives the first shot". That was a saying his old
Commander used to tell him. He'd surpassed his old Commander on the battlefield
just as he'd surpassed his father at regicide, but they had still taught him
valuable lessons. That was what he was worried about. As well as he'd planned
everything he couldn't know for certain how it would play out on the
battlefield. He'd just have to play the cards he had dealt and hope Gorblud
didn't have any 'trumps' bigger than his..."</i><o:p></o:p></div>

both commanders intend to finish this rivalry forever!</i></div>

<br />
Apologies for another interruption before more on the Praetorian v Bad Moon 5k battle report, we will get back to that soon, we have some more urgent news to get to today. This weekend I attended the inaugural 40k London GT and Iron Skull painting competition run by Siege Studios.<br />
<br />
Tournament-wise I did pretty well and finished as the best Guard general with 4 victories and a loss. I played some fantastic games against some great opponents.<br />
<br />
The real success for me was in the painting competition. I managed to come away with 1st place in Sci-Fi single miniature, Sci Fi Squad and Fantasy miniature, 2nd place in Sci-Fi vehicle/monster and even walked away with the Best in Show!<br />
<br />
And to cap it all off the great guys at Siege Studios even took some proper photos of my models so you get a break from the rubbish I usually post. Lets take a look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHanSkZOW4icMeRuIrvbwh7uTCQAlNsmAt-mFOIU4Elq9ZAQw4HpfD8xFRuMLsHeyFVqd0bcuCS2t74UVWb3-DMewHN8Hzv0tMHiUhxFud0prC3M5Ed8ZC2EJfqc6kG0OpcO8vdv4OnoM/s1600/CS1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHanSkZOW4icMeRuIrvbwh7uTCQAlNsmAt-mFOIU4Elq9ZAQw4HpfD8xFRuMLsHeyFVqd0bcuCS2t74UVWb3-DMewHN8Hzv0tMHiUhxFud0prC3M5Ed8ZC2EJfqc6kG0OpcO8vdv4OnoM/s640/CS1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Above we have my winning 40k Squad which also walked away with best in show (and a cash prize!). Sadly Colonel Winterborne and the real command squad were busy on deployment in the best army nominations so this cobbled together rag tag bunch of officers were thrust into the competition!<br />
<br />
The whole army even managed to win Best Army. Never have I been more proud of these fine men of Praetoria!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp6S2cf8bZkWaSCRKN0MhymGTjjStp7NXtuP6RbzcyCY_gDbDnyoSmK24roxFwqIhOabzHdk_930ydMbczhW1MRRsCjSgIUNGPrE9y38P5Oxp_LUe-5yuqXC7pILvCx0Z3fuE5BALhZaU/s1600/mac1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp6S2cf8bZkWaSCRKN0MhymGTjjStp7NXtuP6RbzcyCY_gDbDnyoSmK24roxFwqIhOabzHdk_930ydMbczhW1MRRsCjSgIUNGPrE9y38P5Oxp_LUe-5yuqXC7pILvCx0Z3fuE5BALhZaU/s640/mac1.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up the Macharius Vanquisher. It finished second behind a Tau mega-super-massive-suit (no idea what its really called) which was beautifully painted. The judge said it was a damn close run thing and picked me up on me not weathering my freehand panels very much. Solid feedback and one which will be taken into consideration when I come to add some extra weathering and tank stowage to this behemoth. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGdJAJnLr0ASVVkZtdiqdb4SVLinuGOQ2SwbqrraJGZLeeiXp4LVcVjH1CyWOZXolYZFqp1BW193XVxY8HdI8P48960fyY2MciUE8G7KUMGlTBPmflQP2n6SUTtLk2-P4VTydoHomHAQU/s1600/nork+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGdJAJnLr0ASVVkZtdiqdb4SVLinuGOQ2SwbqrraJGZLeeiXp4LVcVjH1CyWOZXolYZFqp1BW193XVxY8HdI8P48960fyY2MciUE8G7KUMGlTBPmflQP2n6SUTtLk2-P4VTydoHomHAQU/s640/nork+1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Next up the might Nork. While his brother ogryns were smashing face on the gaming table he was engaged in some part time modelling work and walked away with 1st place in the Sci-Fi single miniature category. The judge was particularly complimentary of the flesh on this guy, noting the seamless blending and smooth transition. I think this is really one of my best painted models. I'm definitely going to pick up some more bullgryns/ogryns soon as I love the models and really enjoy painting them.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkvuvJ_s9MBfYf_SIiXoQkyTGb-bEkve_ydJNVFau2uySL4XQAd2SOL9jg8VVEoHGWYMjW8rZUS_sneYlK5CiU6UGmG-so55K3n9VvY3Cr8sh32EuPtKKO5oauP_PFUizEJJjJnFSQes0/s1600/K1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkvuvJ_s9MBfYf_SIiXoQkyTGb-bEkve_ydJNVFau2uySL4XQAd2SOL9jg8VVEoHGWYMjW8rZUS_sneYlK5CiU6UGmG-so55K3n9VvY3Cr8sh32EuPtKKO5oauP_PFUizEJJjJnFSQes0/s640/K1.jpg" width="502" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finally a rare treat for those of you who also like Warhammer Fantasy! A Bretonnian Knight painted by me all of 15/16 years ago! Covered in countless hand painted flur de lys and a direct copy of the original 'eavy metal paint job. Years back in entered him into Golden Demon in the young bloods category and was a finalist. I didn't place in the top 3 (I was robbed!), the reason given by some of the GW staff that I knew was that the judges had concerns that I hadn't actually painted it...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was a brilliant weekend, a big thank you to all the organisers of the London 40K GT, Siege Studios, my great opponents and those who voted for my army in the main competition.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was definitely getting a nudge to enter more painting competitions and Golden Demon next time round... Thoughts?</div>

<br />
This post will look at the army current as of last weekend (21st May 2016 for the record). It started way back in the late nineties and in its current form back in 2011 when I started this blog and got back into the hobby properly.<br />
<br />
I've got to say that getting it all out on the table and realising quite how big it now is was really quite something. It's been added to fairly regularly over the years and is really something quite special now I think.<br />
<br />
For my whole army photos I've returned to the Tomb Kings desert board at Warhammer World. I took a<a href="http://colonel-winterborne.blogspot.co.uk/p/praetorian-4th-mechanised-infantry.html"> photo of the army here about 3 or 4 years ago</a> and thought where better to revisit their progress than there.<br />
<br />
Apologies in advance, this post will be very photo heavy!<br />
<br />
Without further ado lets take a look at a fully painted 5000 points of Praetorian Imperial Guard.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8doiJpYowj6bP5XZORa1aMLXo37fpm-jAalxTbUPvDmIXiOWPEYuVnH8D0LOPdt8Z_L92eCwrxydZWiR-Da0l34KZQ6BIpNt0dmK9LpfygHgbpN4seateFGr0JMWGuwl9t20JlN6gzWc/s1600/WA5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="348" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8doiJpYowj6bP5XZORa1aMLXo37fpm-jAalxTbUPvDmIXiOWPEYuVnH8D0LOPdt8Z_L92eCwrxydZWiR-Da0l34KZQ6BIpNt0dmK9LpfygHgbpN4seateFGr0JMWGuwl9t20JlN6gzWc/s640/WA5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
There we have it, the whole army on parade. Takes about 30 minutes to unpack and set it all up! But absolutely time well spent.</div>

A few photos of various units coming up now. These two (above and below) have the Macharius Vanquisher front and centre. What a tank, for me its still the crown jewel of the army, such a gorgeous model.<br />

Another angle of the army showing you more of the markings that all the tanks have on their flanks. There are particular designations for artillery units, infantry platoons, super heavies, so on and so forth.<br />

Still quite a lot of space in the second half of this board... I think I will have to see if I can fill it!<br />

Now a few more close up shots. Apologies for not the best photos, I was borrowing a camera I hadn't used before and focusing wasn't my strong suit!<br />

The commissar I think is one of my best paint jobs to date. I loved painting the model and I think it shows. The model is so well detailed and I really like the pose. I think the gripe I had with the stock version (minus head swap) is that somehow, whether it is the hat or the paint job, he looks to much like he is skipping. No danger of that here with this Patrick Stewart lookalike.<br />

Flight Lieutenant Corvus 'Rook' from 219 squadron of the Praetorian Navy. I said when I original completed this guy, and still say now that I would love to add more fliers and continue the chess theme throughout them all. I so nearly bought a Marauder Destroyer up at Warhammer World but luckily for my bank balance common sense prevailed!<br />

I nice photo of the Baneblade. This is another newish addition to the army, being less than a year old in terms of painting.Such a great model and featuring Col' Gravis' tank commander from Curious Constructs.<br />

In anticipation for the big game that weekend I made sure I added to my infantry tally. The infantry ranks have definitely swelled over the years but I still have a lot more regular guardsmen that I want to paint.<br />

<br />
I finally finished my 3rd objective marker last week! I converted it when I originally converted Colonel Winterborne himself as this was the original Krieg banner. I greenstuffed over the skulls and then painted it. The banner I kept simple and in the colours of the army.<br />
<br />

Here we have the complete Command HQ, replete with the Colonel's dog and a master of ordinance/officer of the fleet.<br />

<br />
Another closer look at the right flank of the army. I still feel the army is very light in terms of AT and Leman Russ. Perhaps that is something I will need to expand in the future.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcYgkuQ6FrQSYnTVGjM54ceST-UpGNaDEV5nVYgjOqKI3Pl6Xe-nVXpPIUmASZF2Ypxldfv1OOCdatI8kgiP4-FYYoZBokQCQ4X1oC1Z2RtqN16dbKq4JQnPqcYL47qk0ffDkDDL33ydk/s1600/WA18.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="412" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcYgkuQ6FrQSYnTVGjM54ceST-UpGNaDEV5nVYgjOqKI3Pl6Xe-nVXpPIUmASZF2Ypxldfv1OOCdatI8kgiP4-FYYoZBokQCQ4X1oC1Z2RtqN16dbKq4JQnPqcYL47qk0ffDkDDL33ydk/s640/WA18.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Finally some of the heavy ordinance in the arm. The slightly different shade are all related to when I painted them and the paints that either GW changed or a heavier drybrush/wash. There are quite a few different shades throughout the army but I quite like the character I think it adds.<br />
<br />

Soon I will be returning with 5000 points of Warboss Gorblud's fiendish Bad Moon Orks and then we will move on to the main event. The final show down between Winterborne and his nemesis Gorblud...</div>

<br />
The final two bullgryns are almost done, and I hope to finish them tonight. Just a bit of freehand to do and few minor alterations to make.<br />
<br />
Here they are with the friends and a commissar.<br />

Need to get these fellas finished for a trip up to Warhammer World this weekend! Gorblud and I are having a 5K per side battle on one of their lovely fancy boards - Jmigan Bridge. If anyone who follows this blog is in the area by all means come along and say hi!<br />
<br />
I think I'm also going to be paying a visit to Forge World for some new additions. A Gorgon has been mentioned and I'm sorely tempted...Colonel Winterbornehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05335124398357546922noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058325999220434569.post-46184847538665112972016-05-14T12:00:00.000+01:002016-05-14T12:00:32.150+01:00Finished Praetorian Bullgryns Welcome to another post showing off a few of the new additions to the army.<br />
<br />
This time we see a few more finished Bullgryns. I actually still have two more to do (with the slab shields) but this is now a finished legal unit of 3 so I thought I would show them off.<br />
<br />
I'll also apologise for the photo quality in advance, my phone (which these are taken on) has a few issues and I don't have a working proper camera nor a good photo location at the moment... Far from ideal! Anyway, let's have a look,<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwI0wrlbf7Hex49WuFZGQqi4e1Z1ygoyeULfuYN5mY7AaDCcPq79vMOSe7xLviRcgWOmDFvnBP-oG-Y3Bdi9LTcLG6xCDSsdMUjriqjo3yxAX_o34HCYsGbj9Jp7TmQTPaTYE5SPbTlxU/s1600/IMG_8612.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwI0wrlbf7Hex49WuFZGQqi4e1Z1ygoyeULfuYN5mY7AaDCcPq79vMOSe7xLviRcgWOmDFvnBP-oG-Y3Bdi9LTcLG6xCDSsdMUjriqjo3yxAX_o34HCYsGbj9Jp7TmQTPaTYE5SPbTlxU/s640/IMG_8612.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here we have what is probably the best photo of the newest two Bullgryns. Lets now turn to a WIP to see how we got them there. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhssEFzapvNHGHQAnSBGXHE1bxJRJSMhhPR9NK3c1U2UxjIywVzGqu5Xpa4j_pOM_hdvBJYoVD7Vq9aM5khb0OPksDMC5t-UWWK73PcvB1v8UCiSrUChVDqizbVNIS6nZSK0pDMsp0If1Q/s1600/IMG_8603.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhssEFzapvNHGHQAnSBGXHE1bxJRJSMhhPR9NK3c1U2UxjIywVzGqu5Xpa4j_pOM_hdvBJYoVD7Vq9aM5khb0OPksDMC5t-UWWK73PcvB1v8UCiSrUChVDqizbVNIS6nZSK0pDMsp0If1Q/s640/IMG_8603.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In this photos I still have the black to work on and the silver in the weapons. Bullgryns are relatively straightforward for me to paint palette wise with the armour painted like my tanks, and all the flesh and fatigues basecoated Cadian Fleshtone and then highlighted and layered accordingly. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd7DHV4XHKcgycpoKogSHmmU5CrV6sXepc91Z9_rFEi6JU_71gp6LJtlIVHmhFbWxOOtlo-JsUiS6PAywcrhVmhFeR5miGEl7bxvuHFzoOBTxpjIwwoHtZ1j_Jsv65rYRwLnppDF9oyio/s1600/IMG_8611.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd7DHV4XHKcgycpoKogSHmmU5CrV6sXepc91Z9_rFEi6JU_71gp6LJtlIVHmhFbWxOOtlo-JsUiS6PAywcrhVmhFeR5miGEl7bxvuHFzoOBTxpjIwwoHtZ1j_Jsv65rYRwLnppDF9oyio/s640/IMG_8611.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Here the two fellas are with the above bits filled in. Also there was weathering on the armour and the tanks tracks. Its not immediately apparent but there is blue worked in to the silver on the Mauls around the power nodes (for want of a better explanation of what those long stick bits with a ball on the end that are on power weapons are).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGBBbPPZsrYDzMsRBjKQRB751z5N9oF59Ca-rCNswhTspPw9-lDmo9Sjiz0bMGrlzetKXFit4kMFRhxsXOEoYAfZFEqnCkDYinDaeS-QER-Hfja3YE2sI_ifkWiYkQh-4Kncxk6gx7mf8/s1600/FullSizeRender+%252819%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="346" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGBBbPPZsrYDzMsRBjKQRB751z5N9oF59Ca-rCNswhTspPw9-lDmo9Sjiz0bMGrlzetKXFit4kMFRhxsXOEoYAfZFEqnCkDYinDaeS-QER-Hfja3YE2sI_ifkWiYkQh-4Kncxk6gx7mf8/s640/FullSizeRender+%252819%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The one bit of freehand I allowed myself on these guys you will find on the (rather classic ork inspired, remember those old goffs anyone?) disc on the back of their armour. I have painted a bullgryn decal of sorts, which would find its way on to their eventual transport too (should they ever get one).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmdRWDP-yBBu4l0B_b3sB6FKH4iV84F09H_UrjyDTX8sOVGCNeeNuvwA3rDL0ZA0G_S7foRG2RO3-HoJ3xlv2QnM_eI5VOfzmNsnYNdy1zBMIp-LGkPY3I84QtK8gveM84MEQsMY4Q6N0/s1600/FullSizeRender+%252820%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="598" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmdRWDP-yBBu4l0B_b3sB6FKH4iV84F09H_UrjyDTX8sOVGCNeeNuvwA3rDL0ZA0G_S7foRG2RO3-HoJ3xlv2QnM_eI5VOfzmNsnYNdy1zBMIp-LGkPY3I84QtK8gveM84MEQsMY4Q6N0/s640/FullSizeRender+%252820%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A photo of the two of them reunited with their pal who I think I painted well over a year ago. I seem to have this annoying habit of not finishing units. Take my Lifeguards (based of of DKOK Grenadiers), I still only have five painted and they were painted over 4 years ago! But fear not they are now base coated and will get done eventually...</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicPcskCzejW3zrv6f-4GS7FPoY3Q98HE3wAAwLt5xD-YjxvU43j24m1ISp5bQnVkuA-Vv6qrdrvqsY7zSXjy2GKZ28D3xHRM5MeAbIfo0IizuXrMGMI5mhvyWa0l42_H3CLhMwOAgu1ek/s1600/IMG_8609.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEicPcskCzejW3zrv6f-4GS7FPoY3Q98HE3wAAwLt5xD-YjxvU43j24m1ISp5bQnVkuA-Vv6qrdrvqsY7zSXjy2GKZ28D3xHRM5MeAbIfo0IizuXrMGMI5mhvyWa0l42_H3CLhMwOAgu1ek/s640/IMG_8609.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I absolutely love the Bullgryn models. I'd add more of them to the army in a heartbeat. Lots of fun to paint and they look great. I'd probably add some regular Ogryns if I have a moment of madness and buy some more. I've got the two with slab shields to finish first and they should be done within a week or two (and before the London GT in any case!)<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
To finish off we see the three of them lining up alongside a variety of other Praetorian Infantry. All infantry have now also been rebased to match and the army is looking so much better. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Up next will be a few photos of some more updated tanks with all manner of stowage, new weathering and new painted detail.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Greetings all! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Firstly, thanks for the comments on the army list in the previous post. The deadline for early submission is this weekend so I will be sending it in any day now. I don't expect to do great in the games but I hope to have lots of fun with a list that should surprise a fair few people in terms of the units taken.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As previously mentioned there have been a fair few models that I've painted this year. One of the more fun to paint additions was the plastic commissar. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Scroll down, have a look and let me know what you think. Next time there will be Bullgryns for you...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuPS1guJA4XObnhCc0W9rHnViAHT5mDC4gEJbj2it8h_efY_aQkCniHSjM-clA2w4PvZ_x61afjcL1irlrLckJ3BlQkUbiz3Xq3XdOyv3otEmVXaUaOiETrJrJTgsCEYNV8nCuFAYwQs/s1600/IMG_8590.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhIuPS1guJA4XObnhCc0W9rHnViAHT5mDC4gEJbj2it8h_efY_aQkCniHSjM-clA2w4PvZ_x61afjcL1irlrLckJ3BlQkUbiz3Xq3XdOyv3otEmVXaUaOiETrJrJTgsCEYNV8nCuFAYwQs/s640/IMG_8590.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The conversion work for this was very straightforward. The face of the commissar is actually a separate piece to the cap on the sprue. It was very easy to replace with the empty pith helmet that you get with the Victoria Lamb heads. The eagle is actually from the original cap and I simply added it to the helmet. Only a little green stuff was needed to fill a few gaps around the back of the head. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9IzwhpUPVei6-Wkt28wX0OKY_t1YwAxQZ1T2gmSgPkhPNbAu19zpXP3vWrR2uzfqtdTGJ40ufGRf-9N57kmlmjRYyOmqQvqDYPb4s4FLLnmv7OW2Tp3_zPNd5kG4_1r3-ONErs8rRt4/s1600/IMG_8591.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhi9IzwhpUPVei6-Wkt28wX0OKY_t1YwAxQZ1T2gmSgPkhPNbAu19zpXP3vWrR2uzfqtdTGJ40ufGRf-9N57kmlmjRYyOmqQvqDYPb4s4FLLnmv7OW2Tp3_zPNd5kG4_1r3-ONErs8rRt4/s640/IMG_8591.JPG" width="480" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Colourwise he follows the Commissar Lord and the general palette of the army. The only way in which this guy differs is that he has a lot more purple and its a bit more of a 'genestealer cult' purple.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This guy is one of the few characters with no facial hair but I decided to give him a little stubble to stop him looking too baby face. I kinda think he looks like Patrick Stewart now... </div>

Hi everyone!<br />
<br />
I've been busy the last few weeks and have finally finished a unit of 3 bullgryns, painted a new commissar and another squad of regular guardsmen. Photos of those to follow in upcoming posts.<br />
<br />
What I am posting today is a draft army list for the upcoming <a href="http://www.london40kgrandtournament.co.uk/">London 40K GT</a> that I will be attending this month on the 28th May. Might anyone who follows my blog be going?<br />
<br />
Essentially, I havent played a proper game of 7th, or if I have it has been so long that I have utterly forgotton. Unperturbed, I intend to do what I always do, which is take some fun units that look good and road test the newly painted models!<br />
<br />
I've got a draft of the army list below and have maxed out pretty much all my options in a standard Force Org Chart (is it called a CAD now???), taking the little loved units such as ratlings, rough riders, scions and even the bullgryns!<br />
<br />
280 points for the 5 bullgryns is such a points sink it makes me almost physically sick, but they need to be taken because they look bad ass. <br />
<br />
I'm well aware I have no real anti tank or AP2, also nothing above AV 12. It's definitely not my usual army list. All alternative incarnation sees me taking a baneblade, but I can't help but feel that really is a wast of points.<br />
<br />
I have little understanding of the meta at the moment beyond it being likely to be lots of marines, knights and wraith knights.<br />
<br />
Please have a look at the list and let me know your thoughts. Any tips advice or tactics greatly welcomed.<br />
<br />
Thanks!<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
Been a while since the last post but in that time I have managed to finish painting the Wyvern. In my opinion one of the very best guard tank kits they've made, a great model to build and to paint. Let's have a look at the photos. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ZVIjESyXdIfZQxdhNyqZa4WUPewJd1e-QUspMyn_p6mco2ZMUL1nGkGtmzEYgHdQ4zM172qtGOfN__If3YOMvDh8MaUIge2bVpncXRFic9rVL_KV9xUYcEVOE6bNmthOub3nLdyhRBs/s1600/FullSizeRender+%252817%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9ZVIjESyXdIfZQxdhNyqZa4WUPewJd1e-QUspMyn_p6mco2ZMUL1nGkGtmzEYgHdQ4zM172qtGOfN__If3YOMvDh8MaUIge2bVpncXRFic9rVL_KV9xUYcEVOE6bNmthOub3nLdyhRBs/s640/FullSizeRender+%252817%2529.jpg" width="618" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Conversion work on this tank has been minimal and only restricted to the crew. The models are stock with a simple head swap for VL pith helmets and the arms have had their shoulder armour removed in favour of regulation Praetorian epaulets. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCApbCQ5dxK4-TDJC0eokSsOo-LDj8d9govQ1fz3BPwiwJubWEuQkgLfpQad8kI0x3KUtP_V3_d2oX5yNCFmazkiAlp5hrjkNFi8RboIGHaO4u3ldcI7xO4Qlf6XJ4ESWCFl_reAMJ0jg/s1600/FullSizeRender+%25289%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="542" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiCApbCQ5dxK4-TDJC0eokSsOo-LDj8d9govQ1fz3BPwiwJubWEuQkgLfpQad8kI0x3KUtP_V3_d2oX5yNCFmazkiAlp5hrjkNFi8RboIGHaO4u3ldcI7xO4Qlf6XJ4ESWCFl_reAMJ0jg/s640/FullSizeRender+%25289%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Spot colour purple has been used on the scroll the spotter is reading from. It features on some of the more special units and characters in the army and I figured it would add a little interest here. I imagine a Praetorian messenger galloping over and handing him a scroll with the latest firing solutions, likely already hopelessly out of date. </div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6wVuDYGL4KjqJdPUO03BmhTwsoZJH-jhjukg2PbyLsSTjj3yhbWDjzJeGxsuv9dXMm_-yHCuxTNYyovbFyBoA2kocwb_QluJSZzdGo8UZ0lvWKdVZ_oXVmtpqoBG8Yd7Qb9mAksu4vOw/s1600/FullSizeRender+%252811%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6wVuDYGL4KjqJdPUO03BmhTwsoZJH-jhjukg2PbyLsSTjj3yhbWDjzJeGxsuv9dXMm_-yHCuxTNYyovbFyBoA2kocwb_QluJSZzdGo8UZ0lvWKdVZ_oXVmtpqoBG8Yd7Qb9mAksu4vOw/s640/FullSizeRender+%252811%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

The marking match those on the bombard, deathstrike, medusa and hydra and tie it in with the rest of the army.<br />

<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I hope you enjoyed looking at the photos of the latest addition to the army. Question is, what to paint next... More guardsmen? More highlanders? the rest of bullgryns?...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thanks for looking!</div>

Hi Everyone! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been working on the Wyvern for my guard and it is coming along nicely. Hopefully it shouldn't be too long before it is done!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Took me plenty of trial and error but by the end I'm very pleased with the display screen, I initially painted it all very light and then started darkening it dark angels green and black mixes with green and black glazes. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here you can see how it will roughly look with the Praetorian gunner and the mortars attached. Then rest of the tank should be relatively straightforward to paint. It will of course feature the customary freehand that all my armoured elements have. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Id love to know what you all think!</div>

After viewing him with the unit and taking into consideration the feedback on previous posts I made a few changes. I altered the colour on the helmet band to match the command HQ and also added some extra freehand which you will see in the following photos.</div>

As all the human members of the command HQ wear red sashes I thought Nork needed an Ogryn equivalent. But lets be honest, I don't think a sash would last long. As a result I decided to paint a red stripe on the armour as an ogryn compromise which also allows him to keep up to speed with Praetorian uniform regulations.</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The new year is so far turning out to be a good one hobby-wise for me. I've managed to get some more paint on Nork and bar the base (and any possible freehand) he is completed. </div>

I'd love to hear your thoughts.</div>

<br />
Just to let you know I'm still alive and kicking and after a very slow year of hobby I'm hoping things will pick up in 2016.<br />
<br />
I'll post more soon but till then a couple of WIP of Nork...<br />
<br />

Still to paint on him are the knife, the gun, the cigar and the skull speaker. Maybe also some freehand...</div>

As his vision swam in to focus he slowly sat up, noticing pangs of pain all over his body. He could hear some distant sounds of gunfire but upon looking around he didn't appear to be in any imminent danger.<br />
<br />
Gorblud saw that he was lying at the foot of wrecked tank and a thin smile appeared on his face as he remembered tearing the turret off it and killing all the humans inside with blazes from his shoota (and a few stikkbombs for good measure). From quick observation it appeared his armour was burnt, broken and split all over - his power klaw a ruin of fused metal. It would take his meks a long while to fix it once he got it back to camp.<br />
<br />
He pulled himself out of his armour, deciding it would be easier to drag back to his wagon than to try and walk in it without the hydraulics working. It was only then that he noticed the large crater in the side of his chest oozing dark blood. It appeared to be a mostly cauterised plasma burn - he should probably get the Docs to have a look at that.<br />
<br />
As he strolled through the mounds of dead - some piled higher than his head, others shredded so that it was difficult to tell what body parts they had originally - he took note that both sides had taken heavy losses. Gorblud also realised he had quite a few more injuries that he hadn't initially noticed. For starters his left eye definitely wasn't working - when he reached up to check if it was still there all he could feel was a bloody crater in the side of his skull. He also appeared to have a hole straight through one of his thighs (probably a lascannon he thought) and even he was surprised he could still walk on it.<br />
<br />
After a while of dragging his armour through rubble, corpses and miscellaneous vehicle parts he eventually reached his wagon. He was pleased to see that the grot crew were finished repairing the broken track that had made him abandon the vehicle mid-battle, however many hours ago it was now.<br />
<br />
"What's the plan boss?" one of the crew asked in his high pitched sqeak as he entered the cabin.<br />
<br />
"Back to the camp - we's got work to do!" Gorblud replied.<br />
<br />
"But what about the city? Didn't we win the battle?" screeched the grot.<br />
<br />
"Ha! You call this winning?" Gorblud reprimanded. "Leave Braindead to celebrate his ruin - there's nothing for us here. I came here for Winterborne, and the bugger didn't even show his face on the front lines! Send word to gather the boyz and our stuff - we're leaving!"<br />
<br />
"Erm, sir..." one of the grotz said hesitantly, "the... the Stompa... the humans sabotaged it... there's nothing left..."<br />
<br />
Gorblud just stared at the grot - fury building behind his one remaining eye.<br />
<br />
"Er... and it also appears that... that the Deathskulls, they... they stole your Skulhamma..."<br />
<br />
While deep in a moment of utter fury, Gorblud still managed a tiny moment of pleasure as he saw the grot sail clear over a ruined wartrakk and land in the burning wreck of a wagon - it was definitely one of his finer kicks he thought. The moment was quickly over though, and he glared at the remaining gretchin who were now literally cowering behind whatever meagre shelter was closest to them.<br />
<br />
"GET US BACK TO THE CAMP NOW!" he roared "we'ze got some serious building to do!"<br />
<br />
It would be a while before his army was back to strength he thought, but he knew he had the teef and the power to recover from this. He'd build a better Stompa and a better Skulhamma. He might even build one of them flying jets the kult of speed had used - that had caused loads of chaos before the humies shot it out of the sky.<br />
<br />
He wasn't finished. He just needed a bit of time to gather some more boyz. And maybe get some more of those force field things - those would be useful against that human artillery.<br />
<br />
Just a little more time... then Winterborne would get what was coming to him!Colonel Winterbornehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05335124398357546922noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9058325999220434569.post-22050972945845226802015-09-19T18:13:00.002+01:002015-09-19T18:13:50.716+01:00Second Siege of Agratha - Aftermath Part 3The ride was bumpy as hell, but that wasn't going stop Raknor enjoying it. He looked around the cramped compartment of the Trukk and could see the same grim enjoyment on the faces of the hulking Nobs surrounding him. They'd snuck around the Imperial lines now, and should be hitting the humie artillery emplacements any moment. He'd have to congratulate Nask for his Kommandos' work on discovering this unguarded route - the humies wouldn't know what hit 'em!<br />
<br />
Raknor squinted as the Trukk broke through the tree-line and daylight streamed in to the cabin. This was it - time to chop up these humie wretches and make Gorblud proud.<br />
<br />
The trukk skreetched to a bone-jarring halt, but Raknor and his squad were used to the exuberance of ork drivers and needed no time to regain their balance before leaping over the front and sides of the cabin.<br />

<br />
Big shootas opened up to the left and right of the hulking Warboss as his boots hit the dirt and he broke immediately in to a run. Belcher, his attack squig, squeeled in annoyance as he was thrown off his perch on Raknor's shoulder guard to swing briefly on his chain before scrambling back up again.<br />
<br />
It was only after he'd taken several steps that Raknor realised something was wrong. The Imperial lines were still a hundred yards away - the Trukks had stopped too soon! Almost as soon as this thought had gone through his head enemy fire started whipping around him. It was panicky and poorly aimed, but Raknor could already see the enemy forming more organised ranks - it would be mere moments before the ork offence would come under serious fire. Raknor sped-up, urging his fellow Orks to run alongside him.<br />
<br />
The Imperial fire intensified and orks began to fall. A large tank straight ahead spat out round after round of large calibre ammunition, mowing down orks wherever the guns were directed. Raknor, began to get worried - there was still a lot of ground to cover and there was a lot of firepower now directed at them.<br />
<br />

<br />
A huge roar overhead announced the arrival of Mytox and his stormboyz. Raknor looked on in dismay as he realised they had misjudged the jump distance and landed too far in front of the Imperial lines. They were almost instantly being cut to pieces by concentrated fire from a number of Imperial units. Curse those trukk boys, they'd caused this mess!<br />
<br />
The death of the stormboyz was sorry loss, but a welcome diversion Raknor realised, as they had probably bought his squad enough time to reach the Imperial front lines. He looked left and right. The losses had been heavy, but not near enough to stop the charge - they could still win glory after all!<br />
<br />
He took a large intake of breath and then let loose an almost ground shaking roar.<br />
<br />
"WAAAGGGHHH!!!"<br />
<br />
With uncontrolled enthusiasm his fellow orks joined in, bellowing and sprinting as fast as their bowed legs could carry them. He noticed with satisfaction as Durog and his bikerz hit the Imperial lines first, driving nearly full-speed into the human infantry while spraying shells and swinging choppas.<br />

<br />
Just before Raknor's own unit hit the Imperial lines, a human squad in bright orange fatigues bravely sprayed them with undisciplined las fire as they closed the last few yards. Raknor signalled to his squad to take out the big tank while he dealt with this little annoyance.<br />
<br />
The first two humans went down to a burst of fire from his gauntlet mounted shoota - their thin armour no match for his high calibre shells. The next one was cleaved in two by a mighty sweep of his huge choppa which sent the top half of the body sailing a good 15 feet in a beautiful parabola while spraying his comrades with blood.<br />
<br />
The next imperial jumped forwards and tried to skewer Raknor with his bayonet, but his clumsy strike was easily parried by Raknor's gauntlet shortly before his head was chopped cleanly off.<br />
<br />
Raknor knocked the next human off his feet with the head of his choppa before he could bring his lasgun to bear. Raknor then rapidly deflected the bayonet of another before slicing him from naval to collar in one easy stroke. With each blow he struck Raknor was more invigorated, the power unit of his enhanced choppa seeming to thrum with more energy the more lives it took. He vaguely noticed his squad of Nobs tearing open hatches and lobbing stikkbombs in to the tank to his left, but he was now far too deep in to the thrall of violent combat to pay it much heed.<br />
<br />
He only paused when all around him seemed to be dead - orange clad body parts littering the ground around him. He let out a bellowing laugh at the sheer joy of combat.<br />
<br />
As he turned to look for new foes a searing pain seared through his chest. Sharply jerking away he heard an awful crunching noise and the pain flared into a brief moment of agony. Looking down he saw the end of a chainsword buried in the armour of his chest plate and broken off at the hilt. One of the orange humans was still alive and had seized an opportunity to attack while Raknor was distracted.<br />
<br />
While Raknor was still in shock the human tried slam the broken handle of his sword into the huge ork’s face, but pure instinct made the warboss evade enough to cause a mere glancing blow to his chin.<br />
<br />
Raknor quickly recovered his wits, realising the injury was nothing the Doks wouldn't be able to sort out in short order. He took measure of his foe and realised he had nothing further to worry about. The fool had disarmed himself of his most dangerous weapon by stupidly stabbing his opponent with a chain weapon intended for slicing.<br />
<br />
In one easy move Raknor knocked the human to the ground with the haft of his choppa before raising it up for the killing blow. He paused briefly to appreciate the kill, giving the human a grim smile as he lay sprawled in a small furrow of mud and dirt.<br />
<br />
Just as Raknor started the final downward swing a blindingly bright flash appeared to his left, instantly followed by a searing pain at his neck. His vision blurred and he felt a huge wave of disorientation as the sound of the massive explosion reached his ears.<br />
<br />
A moment later his world stopped spinning and his vision slowly came back. The pain at his neck had gone away as quickly as it had arrived, and even the pain in his chest seemed to have abated.<br />
<br />
He could see the massive wreck that had been the heavy tank and a couple of his nobz staggering away from its recent cataclysmic explosion. Nearer he saw a human in orange fatigues struggle to his feet under the shadow of a hulking ork figure. The human gently pushed the ork and the body toppled helpless and headless to the floor.<br />
<br />
A grim realisation came to Raknor as he recognised the armour and weaponry of the felled ork. Well, no wonder the pain in his chest had gone – his chest was now several feet from his head. As his vision blurred and he drifted in to unconsciousness all he could think was ‘I really hope there is a bluddy dok nearby . . .’<br />

<b>“FIRE!”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> <i>The imperial line had overextended. In the West the Leviathan had pushed too far ahead and was now almost cut off from the main battle line. He had heard on the short wave vox that the force under Captain Caine had reached Gravis and were taking up defensive positions among the wreckage of a stompa, The Praetorian Lancers and Dragoons had also managed to reach the Leviathan and were organising themselves for a final charge headlong into the ork lines. </i><br />

</i> <b>“Second Rank…”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> <i>In the East the Cadian armoured might had come unstuck. The near suicidal advance of ork trukks. battlewagons and bikes had delivered Warboss Gorblud and his retinue deep into their lines. In close quarters the tanks were no match and a great many venerable Leman Russ were unceremoniously ripped apart. Where these ork reinforcements had come from nobody knew, a great many had advanced on the Imperial lines from the flanks and the rear. The cunning of the orks had seemingly been greatly underestimated.</i><br />

</i> <b>“FIRE!”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> <i>Admiral Drax was close by. That much he knew. He had expected to link up with him near the centre of the Imperial lines, attempt to re-establish communication and better coordinate the deployment of the heavier elements of the Fourth Mechanised. With the renewed ork assault and the arrival of the Green Tide, Drax, much like Gravis had been almost cut off from the main Imperial lines. An ork Skull Hamma battlefortress had been closing on the Cadian support weapons. From the reports of his own scouts, it appears that Drax had decided to see to it personally…</i><br />

<br />
<b>“First Rank…”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> Colonel Winterborne was brought back into the present when the hull of a nearby chimera imploded under the impact of a crude ork rocket. The shock wave from the explosion washed over his command squad. A number of Cadians had been stood far closer and had been caught in the blast. Lord Stern strode over to them and unflinchingly administered the Emperor’s mercy.<br />

<br />
<b>“FIRE!”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> The sergeant major continued to shout orders at the amassed Praetorian infantry. The remnants of a number of squads from the fourth foot had formed up with squads of the fourth mechanised. Two ranks deep they stood, arranged in a long line punctuated by support weapons in the form of heavy bolters and autocannons.<br />
<br />
<b>“Second Rank...” </b><br />
<b><br />
</b> The first rank took to one knee and began reloading their lasrifles. Their comrades took aim over their heads, picking their targets from the onrushing orks.<br />

<b>“FIRE!”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> The nearest orks absorbed the Praetorian fire, a great many falling to so many well placed hits, but many more shrugged of the lasfire, seemingly uncaring or unfeeling of the injuries sustained. The heavy weapon gunners did their best to focus on the larger orks, some shots punching clean through, others tearing off limbs. But still they came.<br />

<b>“First Rank...”</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> The Baneblade Indomitus Rex spoke with the fury of a god. It’s guns tearing huge holes in the ork advance. It advanced to the right of the Praetorian position, supported by Cadian veterans. These were the same veterans who had laid low the tyrant Warboss Gorblud. There hadn’t been time to find the body, and while these cocky veterans were prone to exaggeration, they were certain their melta fire had put too many holes in him to survive.<br />
