First game of 30k and grenadier update

My Praetorians had their first foray into the world of 30K yesterday. A 3000pts battle against an absolutely gorgeous Ultramarine army.

It was absolutely brilliant, the game was neck and neck from start to finish and it looked to be heading into a draw in turn 5 until the final throw of the dice, my Medusa (counts as medusa field gun as 30K militia have some differences) one shotted an otherwise untouched land raider!

The game gave you extra points for units in the opponents deployment zone, as the dust settled there were none for either of us, both warlords were dead, and it came down to attrition with me winning on units killed!

Here are some photos for you to enjoy.

That’s not all for today though here is a little update on the WIP Praetorian Grenadier. Hopefully I’ll have some more hobby to show you soon as I’m currently building my new Land Raider Proteus!

Thanks for following and having a look! Comments as always are welcome.

WIP Colonel of the Praetorian Highland Guard

Hello everyone!

Firstly sorry for still not having posted the battle report from the big Praetorian Bad Moon Orks game, it will arrive eventually... I promise!

But I've surely got to give you something by way of an apology so here are two photos of two new conversions for the army. The army is being expanded again and there are a whole raft of new models that will soon need painting.

I've downed brushes for the time being (I'm actually waiting for some new ones as I used the old to destruction!) and am busy converting new models. Soon to be added are a Leman Russ Demolisher, another Taurox (with the VL Wheels), the Tech Priest's Trojan, some servitors, some more priests, psykers and lots more guardsmen. Of particular note will be lots more Highlanders and some very very sneaky gitz... But more on the latter another time.

Anyway without further ado, two of the new WIP additions!

First up we have the new Colonel (rank and name subject to change) of the Highland Regiment. I recently ordered a load of Victoria Lamb bits and set to work converting up some new fellas and this man, with no real plan on my part, just came to life!

The axe (not enough guardsmen with axes are there?) was a freebie. I was inspired by some space marine characters (is it one of Calgars honour guards?) and gave the pointing axe pose a go. The arm was originally a sword arm.

The pistol is a plasma pistol to complete the 'points sink what a ridiculous combination of wargear for a guard commander' look.

He will have a Highland command squad to accompany him in due course. I think he might become one of my favourite models...

Finally we have a Praetorian drummer girl! Its all VL bits, with a hat swap and the praetorian epaulettes rather than the stock shoulder guards the model came with. So much character in this model. I think she will need to join Captain Caine's command squad and no doubt I will need to convert a few more characters up to finish it off.

Sorry again for still not having the battle report! Soon, I promise!

Infantry of the Praetorian IV - Gallery photos part 5

Welcome to another gallery post!

The following photos were taken about and a bit ago. Consequently some of what you will see has been updated and changed! Tanks have been updated with stowage and additional weathering and infantry have had their bases updated where needed. Anyway, I took these photos so I'm posting them!

 photo DSC_1433_zps59531915.jpg

This squad was the first 'new' squad I painted when I returned to the hobby at the dawn of this blog. Notice the minor conversion on the autocannon where I have used the plastic autocannon from the Cadian kits.

 photo DSC_1432_zps449e657a.jpg

Here we have a few more guardsment from the 1st platoon. The number is more than pictured now as I have fully updated and rebased 4 squads of 10 with sergeants as needed. Another 40+ are on the way.

 photo DSC_1423_zpsdc8346db.jpg

Here we have the first 3 chimeras. As mentioned in previous posts the main painting was done over 10 years ago at the advent of the army. They were updated a couple years back to look like this. They have now been updated once more! Look out for a post of them in the future, they look brilliant and have had all the viewing lenses, targetting reticules, eagles and much more painted and with a healthy addition of sponge weathering.

 photo DSC_1430_zps5eb1ec72.jpg

Here is the platoons first Taurox. Another will follow so the whole platoon of 45 is fully mounted. I think for the next Taurox I'll go for the autcannons mounted on the turret for variety.

 photo DSC_1426_zps6da84bbb.jpg

Here we have the command squad for the first platoon. The melta gun and Lieutenant were painted a couple of years back but the other 3 date back far longer (though may have been updated a little). In two minds about these fellas and think they need a bit more work to bring them up to code.

 photo DSC_1414_zps0ecfd8fe.jpg

This is the chimera for the Lifeguards. It still needs to be updated from this but as it was painted in the last 3/4 years it is still very decent. I'm planning on removing one of the heavy flamers and replacing it with a heavy bolter. No point having two as you can't fire both unless you don't move!

The anti tank squad. There will be three more lascannons painted up eventually (using the original models). These guys have had the based updated now too as they were previously the wrong shade.

The Praetorian Lifeguards! I really like these guys. The second 5 are finally converted and undercoated so it's a simple matter of me getting them painted. Can't wait to see the full 10 finally painted.

Finally to round of this post we have the highland veterans. One of the first new units I worked on for the army a few years back. Having Highland Praetorians was one of the inspiration for me getting back into the hobby. Very much looking forward to painting the new Highland Scions.

Hope you enjoyed the post! I'll be rounding off the gallery posts soon and will have a few new things to show too.

I'm off to Texas for the whole of March (do I have any followers down that way?) with work so sadly there will be no time for hobby in that period. However I'm scheduling a few posts for while I'm away to ensure that I keep up with my blogging resolutions!

What's on the painting table?

Hey everyone!

So roughly a week after my last update we have another! I'm trying to stick to my resolutions and post lots of lovely updates for your enjoyment.

A brief post for the moment just giving you a snapshot of what lies on my painting table and a glimpse of what models you can expect to appear in posts soon.

Here we are mid way through painting the main colour on the tanks. Just a couple more drybrushes to go and then it'll be on to all the detail.

Here is the Baneblade at the Baylor brown stage of painting. Don't worry it usually looks it a bit yellowy at this stage.

Here we see the mortar teams (years overdue) the remaining 5 lifeguards and the two almost finished riflemen.

Here we have the bullgryns lurking behind the Highland Scions. I'm very much looking forward to painting these guys.

In my next post I will have some more painted models for you!

September Update

Hey everyone!

Sadly the past few months have been pretty barren hobby-wise. Nonetheless I have managed to get a few bits done and have even managed to snap a few photos.

There are photos of a few of the newer projects and some older models that have been on the cards for a couple of years!

 photo IMG_9715_zps5b975ed9.jpg

First up we have a photos of all the work in progress items (minus one Taurox I couldn't face building after constructing so many tanks and a load more infantry). 3 mortars I started painting about 2 years ago, 3 lascannons, 4 squads of guardsmen, 5 Life guards (the other 5 were completed about 2 years ago or more), 10 Highland Scions, 5 Bullgryns, Nork, a missionary, a command section, 2 Taurox, a wyvern and a baneblade. Oh and a commissar.

Should take me all of a weekend to paint don't you think?...

 photo IMG_9717_zps549abf76.jpg

Here we have a closer photos of an officer with a power fist that I converted ages ago. Also Nork with the small conversion on the loudspeaker and the commissar with the hat swap.

 photo IMG_9718_zps0fbd6388.jpg

The mortars have been work in progress for a long long time. The bases and main uniform colour are all finished. One day I will get round to painting the rest!

 photo IMG_9719_zps4b839abc.jpg

The newest super heavy to attached to the IV mechanised infantry. Very much looking forward to working on this one.

 photo IMG_9720_zps31f855f9.jpg

The Highland Scions. They all have the newest VL kilts and heads. The only infantry in my army who don't have the trademark epaulettes. The only greenstuffing I needed to do was the plumes on the side of the helmets and then collars on their uniforms as the heads didn't fit so well with the armoured torsos.

 photo IMG_9721_zpsc3c0570b.jpg

The bullgryns. Another unit I am looking forward to painting.

 photo IMG_9722_zps7fba1cf5.jpg

I finished the first 5 Life guards years ago so its nice to finally convert and undercoat the second 5! Its been pretty shameful how long it has taken, but at least we are finally almost there, almost a unit of 10!

 photo IMG_9723_zpsd83930ff.jpg

Here are the converted Wyvern crew. Straight head swap on both and then then addition of VL epaulettes.

 photo IMG_9725_zps358594fa.jpg

Finally the Baneblade tank commander, complete with pipe and sabre.

Right that is your lot for the moment. I'm currently painting the tanks getting them all to the stage where the main hull colour is complete. Also need to buy a few more paints, pretty much out of XV88 and Ushabti bone which is pretty fatal for me!

I've also trialed the army painter spray paint on these tanks and I think it works pretty well. Not so different to the XV88 (just a little bit more gray perhaps, lacking a redder tint), I reckon it will save me a lot of hours.

I've got a few more posts in the pipeline so hopefully it wont be months before the next one!

I've been sorting lots of old stuff out recently and I unearthed some classic armies of mine. There are going to be a Warhammer fantasy posts coming up featuring a Dark Elves, Vampire Counts and Khemri army I painted over 10 years ago!

Heres a sneak peak

A little bit of what I've been working on...

Hey everyone, finally managed to get some hobby work done in the past few days. Some new highland guard conversions using the Scions are the current favourite project I'm working on.

Plenty of other irons in the fire and lots to post about in coming days and weeks, but I'll keep today's brief and let the photos do the talking...

One heck of a weekend...

As the post title suggests it has been one heck of a weekend. There have been lots of new purchases for the army, battles fought, models painted and photos taken. It's going to take at least a few posts over the coming week to fit everything in.

Before I start there are now gallery photos of the Highland Guard with proper lighting and background. There is also a new objective marker and the chimera to accompany the Veterans.

So where to begin...

This weekend I took part in a tournament at Triple Helix in Westbury, Wiltshire. It consisted of 4 battles, two of 1250pts and then an escalation to 1750pts for another two games. Units used in the 1250 had to be in the 1750 and could not be altered.

With the tournament in mind I got all of my Praetorians out of their cases and set about writing an army list. In doing so I just couldn't resist taking some photos of the whole army, so here you go. The finished elements of the Praetorian IV Mechanised Infantry.

The Inquisitorial Valkyrie attached to the army.

INCOMING!!!

There you have it, the army as it stands this weekend. Also 12 explosion markers I use for my wrecked or damaged tanks.

I will post again in the next couple of days with details of what happened at the tournament and a bumper load of photos of the battles and other armies.

Any comments are very welcome!
